2月11日上午北京冬奥会男子冰壶循环赛第三轮中，中国男子冰壶队5：4战胜丹麦队，获得北京冬奥会上的首场胜利。

冰壶（Curling）被称为“冰上国际象棋”，是在冰上进行的一种投掷性竞赛项目，它考验参与者的体能与脑力，展现的是静动之美和取与舍的智慧。

Curling首现于1638年。在韦氏词典里对Curling的解释为：a game in which two teams of four players each slide curling stones over a stretch of ice toward a target circle。

 

冰壶项目最初出现时与14世纪出现的掷环套桩游戏（Quoits）非常相似（如下图）。

1795年，第一家冰壶俱乐部在苏格兰创立。1838年，苏格兰冰壶俱乐部首次制定了正式比赛规则。1924年，冰壶作为表演项目被纳入首届冬奥会，不过直到1998年长野冬奥会才成为正式比赛项目。

Curling has been an Olympic sport since 1998. It is a game played on ice in which two opposing teams, of four players each, competing in sliding large stones toward a target in the center of a circle. 

The playing surface is called the "curling sheet". The curling stone is made of granitewith a maximum weight of 19.96 kilograms.
