英国大学的传媒类专业按照学术范畴主要分5个方向：

一．Communication and Journalism 

       传媒学与新闻学

二．Media studies & Creative Industries 

       媒体研究及创意产业

三. Public Relations

四．Advertising

五．Film, video, multimedia

      电影、视频及多媒体

其中Communication and Journalism是最传统的方向，也是大多数学校开设的专业。

1、偏重理论研究方向的项目:

传播学理论（硕士较少，通常为PhD）、媒体研究

例如：

2、偏重实践或者说职业性教育为目的的项目:

新闻、广告（偏广告策划）、公关（偏商科）、大众传播

互联网社会科学硕士，这个专业设置在牛津大学的互联网研究中心（institute of internet）。通过社会学理论的角度去看待互联网与社会的关系。

MSc  Social Data Science

合适有量化基础（计算机、工程和数学）背景的人申请。教授学生，如何使用数据分析的技术研究社会科学的问题，包括使用结构化的数据（收集好的调查数据）和非结构化数据（网络数据，还需进行数据挖掘将其结构化），进行社会问题、政治问题、移民问题等现实面的问题进行研究。

MSc  Film Aesthetics

这个专业并不注重考查电影的文化、政治、宗教等面向，而是研习其“审美形式”。

LSE的传媒课程，致力于解决新兴数字世界的关键问题如知识建构，政治机构，文化和身份，以及媒体和传播环境监管，以理论为主，侧重于研究，也涉及多种研究方法论的探讨。

UCL的传媒类专业其实不多，主要是数媒下面的几个分支，然后还有电影研究等方向。UCL的传媒都是数字媒体方向，传媒类专业的优势主要在于院校是G5。
