I recently deleted all AI plug-ins and switched to a browser designed for AI: Dia !
It turns out that in order to surf the Internet more AI-friendly, I really installed all the AI plug-ins on the market .
Once the plug-in bar is opened, you can see a dense array of tools.
Just open a web page, and several tools will pop up on the right to give me a summary.
Just mark a word, and 4 or 5 plugins will come out to do the job…
But don’t be fooled by the fact that they are all rushing to work. When something is really needed, they all give up.
However, for the past two weeks, I have been trying out the latest AI browser : Dia.
It’s been two weeks, and I haven’t installed any plugins yet…
But no matter what I watch, AI will accompany me throughout the whole process, and the experience is directly improved by a degree~
Dia is the second main product launched by The Browser Company after the highly acclaimed Arc browser .
But the company emphasized that this is not a “browser with AI added” but a system designed for AI from the bottom up .
Sound a bit abstract?
My understanding is: it is not like an “AI plug-in” that requires you to actively trigger it;
Instead, let AI be integrated into your environment and all browsing behaviors from the beginning. Every page you visit, the content you read, and your typing are the context of AI.
It’s a bit like having an AI surfing partner accompanying you the entire time you’re surfing the Internet.
You can always ask him, ” What do you think of this?”
2.1 Basic Search
Once Dia is opened, it is very simple and has a fresh aesthetic.
The most basic and inconspicuous one is this window that combines ChatGPT search + Google search .
The model should be ChatGPT. The search effect is good, but it is not its highlight.
2.2 Character Setting
As we said just now, it is very much like we have always had an AI online partner.
In fact, Dia allows us to set the personality of our partners here and set who you want to go online with.
If you often browse business and financial websites and watch videos, you can ask Buffett to go online with you and discuss together.
2.3 Web browsing
For example, when I open my homepage, I can let it analyze the advantages of my content~
And it can also do one thing, which is to remove the barrage in the video.
Before this, if I wanted to crawl some content, I had to use a web crawler MCP in Cursor to do it.
Of course, chatting on the web is not limited to watching videos, listening to blogs or reading articles… you can chat about anything.
The best thing about my first experience was that when I opened the video platform, before I clicked on any specific video, it popped up and asked me if I wanted to summarize a certain video.
It feels like the entire Dia environment is really surfing the Internet with you, not as passive as a plug-in…
And after I clicked on the summary, it not only summarized the content of the video, but also searched for relevant information based on the theme of the video to give me the answer.
It can also summarize some content that traditional AI plug-ins cannot summarize~
2.4 Multi-webpage chat (knowledge base)
Of course, another common method I use is multi-webpage chatting .
When I want to know about a topic, I will open many related videos, public accounts, reports, and official websites, and you can chat about them all at once.
It is equivalent to that all the pages you open are your temporary knowledge base .
Let it summarize based on this series of different statements and ask it what it thinks about the matter.
I feel like I often open a lot of web pages, but I don’t browse any of them. I’m really just helping AI choose information sources…
2.5 Editing Function
However, what’s more comprehensive is that you can also use Dia as an AI editor !
For example, when editing Feishu, posts, blog articles and comments, circle the resources you want to cite on the editing page, and you can ask it to write after you finish chatting.
Just click insert after writing, and you can also highlight the words to make partial modifications~
Its interactive design is also very elegant. There is no plug-in button that pops up to take over the job. It is just selected silently on the right.
Or press command + E to directly state your continuation or modification requirements.
The key point is that its word highlighting is different from ordinary plug-ins or even Cursor in that it not only knows the content you circled, but also all the content on your page is its context.
For example, when I was summarizing the Dia function, it used the YouTube videos I watched as examples.
It really is like an AI partner who surfs the Internet with you, understands you very well and is always online.
This set of functions is very smooth and can basically be regarded as an integrated ima knowledge base + Monica plug-in + Cursor/ObsiDian editor.
2.6 Disadvantages
Of course, Dia is indeed in its early stages and its shortcomings are real.
For example, this input box is very speechless. If the input is too long, it will be truncated and you can’t see what you typed…
Chat records are like browsing records, which is very anti-habit.
There is one final fatal flaw….
That is, although Dia is now completely free, invitation codes are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain, and it is only available on Mac .
However, Dia’s future is still worth looking forward to.
If its voice function is replaced with a real-time multimodal model and supports browser automation operations.
The surfing experience with AI has changed from “operation” to “expression” .
I analyzed my action of deleting all AI plug-ins. In fact, the reason behind it was that I wanted to change from the current situation of “patching the browser”.
Truly enter into the feeling of symbiosis with AI .
