Colorful 就是 full of color，那么earful 是什么？

       一学生就下文中的an earful of positive news stories 提出问题。

      我问：beautiful 是什么意思？学生回答：漂亮，美丽的。我说：beautiful 就是 full of beauty，wonderful 就是 full of wonder，colorful 就是 full of color。

        我问：a roomful of people 是什么意思？他们回答：满满一屋人。

       正确！我顺势告诉他：a roomful of people 就是a room full of people。a handful of people 就是四，五个人。类似的表达还很多，像，a pocketful of money, a spoonful of soup, a drawerful of letters..., 所以，an earful of ... 就是一直听到絮絮叨叨的事。比如：

1 .I heard an earful of gossip this morning.

2. She gave me an earful of complaints about her new deskmate.

3.Recently，Google announced that its voice­-activated program，Google Assistant，will be offering a new feature called “Tell Me Something Good”．Users can now give that command and receive an earful of positive news stories. What’s more，The New York Times has a page online called “Fixes”，which focuses on what people are doing to fight social ills. As media researcher Karen McIntyre of Virginia Commonwealth University explains，these are all parts of a news movement called constructive journalism.
