用法一：
Hold 握住，拿住，抓住，抱住 [verb]
对话：
A: Could you hold this for a second? Thanks. Hey, is this anybody's bike? No? Hey, buddy, is this your bike?
（你能拿一下吗？谢谢。这是谁的自行车，没人认领吗？嘿，哥们，这是你的自行车吗？）
例子：
1. Could you hold my bag for a while?
你可以帮我拿一会儿包吗？
2. He's holding a gun.
他拿着枪。
用法二：
Hold 等待，延迟 [verb]
对话：
A: Good morning. I'm calling from Mr. Benjamin Lockwood's estate. Would you mind holding for a second?
（早上好。这里是本杰明·洛克伍德先生的宅邸。请您稍等一下不要挂线好吗?）
B: Yes, of course, I'll hold.
（好的，我等着。）
例子：
1. Hold your breath.

用法三：
Hold 保持某种状态，持续某种状态 [verb]
对话：
A: That hurts.
（好疼。）
B: If you held still, it wouldn't hurt as much.
（如果你好好躺着，就不会这么疼了。）
A: If you hadn't run away, none of this would've happened.
（如果你不逃走，这些事情就不会发生。）
例子：
1. Please hold still.
请不要动。
2. Do you think the good weather can hold?
你认为这样的好天气能持续下去吗?。
用法四：
Hold 保持不被打破，保持不被破坏 [verb]
对话：
A: This glass is not gonna hold long. You stay here.
（这玻璃撑不了多久了。你待在这里。）
B: Merlin, quickly, how do I get up there?
（梅林，快点告诉我怎么上去？）
C: Keep shooting. I'll find a route.
（继续开枪。我在找路线。）
B: Understood.
（明白了。）
例子：
1. That cable won't hold much longer.
那根缆绳撑不了多久了。
2. Will the rope hold?

用法五：
Hold 举行，安排，举办 [verb]
对话：
A: We're tracking Amy's phone, her credit cards. We will organize searches, put up flyers. We're gonna hold a press conference tomorrow.
（我们在跟踪艾米的手机和信用卡。我们会组织搜寻，贴出寻人启事。我们明天会开新闻发布会。）
B: You're having a press conference?

例子：
1. We should hold a meeting to discuss this problem.

Hold 抵御，抵挡 [verb]
对话：
A: Quickly, men! Get that bridge up and secure it!

B: That won't hold them for long.
（这样也抵挡不了多久。）
例子：
1. I can't hold them much longer.
我抵挡不了他们多久了。
2. The soldiers managed to hold off the enemy.
