Cost(o)-  meaning： rib 意为：肋骨

Crani(o)- meaning： skull 意为：头颅

Intercostal adj：肋间的

Cranioventral：adj 前腹侧

Now cost means the ribs.  For example you might hear the word intercostal.  Here is an example sentence.

cost 表示肋骨。 你可能会听过intercostal这个词。 看一个例句。

1. When you auscultate the heart, identify the heart valves by remembering their locations at the intercostal spaces.  

当你听诊心脏的时候，通过记住它们在肋间的位置来识别心脏瓣膜。

Now our second prefix, crani(o), which means the skull.  Now cranio is more of a directional word, or terminology, it’s telling you which direction in anatomy, right? And it comes from the word cranium, which is like the front part of the skull.  For example you might hear the word cranioventral.  Again, now this is again a directional word,  So, for example, here is an example sentence.

2. The caudal vena cava normally angles cranioventrally from the diaphragm to the heart.

So here cranioventrally means to the head (cranio) and to the abdomen (ventral).
