句子1

It’s a much more sensible way to go about this than trying to block skilled workers from other countries. 

 

这个句型可以用来描述“对比两种不同处理方式，起到强调和突出作用”。

 

例如，

• 比起死记硬背，逻辑分析和头脑风暴更效果更好。

  Logic analysis and brainstorming are much more sensible ways of study than trying to learn by rote.
  

• 比起诉诸武力，对话沟通，友好协商更可取。
  

  Friendly dialogue and consultation are much more sensible ways of addressing the issue than resorting to violence.
  

句子2

On current trends, the study concluded, polar bears in 12 of 13 subpopulations analyzed will have been decimated within 80 years by the galloping pace of change in the Arctic.

该研究得出结论称，按照目前的趋势，随着北极加速变暖，研究分析的13个北极熊亚种群将有12个在80年内灭绝。

这一个句子有点复杂，里面的句型还是很值得学习的。“On current trends, the study concluded, sth will have been ……within……by/with the galloping pace of change in”.

在描述一个消极趋势带来的后果时，这个句型很好用。

例如：

• 研究得出结论称，按照目前的趋势，随着来世界人口不断增加，世界人口预计在2025年内达到81亿，世界将面临资源紧缺、气候变化、贫富差距拉大，食物短缺等诸多挑战。
  

  On current trends, the study concluded, the world will be facing challenges like resource scarcity, climate change,  growing wealth gap, shortage of food, etc.  with the galloping pace of growth in world population, which is predicted to reach 8.1 billion by 2025.
