更新:本文中的翻译貌似可以,但笔者认为更好的版本在这里 “如果信念有颜色,那一定是中国红!”的英文怎么说?,两者比较,高下立判。
Ms Meng Wanzhou came back home in the evening on September 25th, after 1028 days of arbitrary detention(任意拘押) in Canada.
When she walked out of the plane, she was wearing a red dress and on the side of the plane we can see our national flag, — the five-star red flag.
In her short speech(演讲), she said a sentence “如果信念有颜色,那一定是中国红”, which became a hot nation-wide quote(引言).
How do we say this sentence in English? Actually, it’s not very difficult. Here are two ways:
1. If faith had a colour, it must be Chinese Red.
2. If there should be a colour for faith, it must be Chinese Red.
Do you know Chinese Red? Usually people think the common(常见的) colour “red” is Chinese red, as we can see in the Chinese national flag.
On the plane flying back to homeland(祖国), Ms Meng wrote a passage(文章) to show her feelings and thanks. Together with the passage, there is a picture of a drink, and the background colour of the picture on the cup is also Chinese Red.
Red is a very significant(意义深刻的) colour in China. It means happiness and good luck(运气). It’s the colour of blood(血液), so it also means the spirit of fighting(战斗精神).
But technically(在技术层面), in the Pantone Cards of Colours(潘通色卡), Chinese Red is only one colour numbered 18-1663 TCX, which you can see in the following picture.
Now let’s say “Welcome back home, Ms Meng“!
Before she left Canada, at the airport, she gave a speech in both Chinese and English. See the video:
