(三)遣词造句
1、第一段
记叙文的要素中,时间和地点一般都会最先交代。考虑到文章的篇幅所限,本段里最好开门见山予以交代。如下面的范文所示:
It was a usual school day,so usual that I nearly fell asleep on the metro after a long day of learning.
【注意】
虽然本文要求描述难忘的一天,但本段开头却以a usual school day开头,其实是要达到欲扬先抑的效果,而且作者通过so usual that..的补充说明,进一步铺垫这一天一开始看起来的usual。
2、第二段
作为记叙文的核心内容,本段要详细描述事情的原由、经过和结果。如下面的范文所示:

为了与第一段所描述的“平常“形成更大的反衬,本段开头采取了“先声夺人”的手法,通过一位中年女士的突然斥责,打破了一路上的平静,从而引出了事情的原由——年轻人不给老人让座(give his seat),遭到了旁人的斥责(rebuke)。
紧接着,其他乘客也跟着一起责备年轻人的“不像话”,不给老人让座。在用词上,选用了echo her rebuke bemoaning his incivility,来表示对中年女士斥责的附和。
然而,年轻人对此却无动于衷,只是低着头(kept his head down),什么也没说,什么也没做(without saying or doing anything)。
此时,作为旁观者的作者,也被斥责声给吵醒了,于是睁开惺松的双眼(lifted my dim eyes)仔细看了看年轻人(took a close look at him):看起来这位年轻人是一脸疲惫(his tired look),就跟作者自己一样(just as I did)。这个时候,又有一个声音响起了,只是此时不是斥责声,而是带着哭腔的幽怨(choked out):”大家都冷静一下(Calm down)!
他的妈妈下午过世了(passed away)!”
而到了这里,作者却采用了省略号结尾,把事情的结果留给了读者去想象——这其实是个不言而喻的结果。
3、第三段
记叙一件事情,往往有其背后的原因,所以作者在最后对这件突发的平常却又值得深思的事情,进行了反思总结。如下面的范文所示:
This usual day has thus become one of my most unforgettable days which always reminds me not to jump to any conclusions before having all the facts.
本段通过usual和unforgettable两个词的总结,突出了这件事情的难忘之处,然后借用which引导的定语从句,总结出这件事情对作者的影响——遇事不能轻易下结论(not to jump to any conclusions before having all the facts)。

第一段也可以这样写:
It was a usual day,when I took my usual metro after my usual lesson and fell asleep as usual.
第二段无需做大的改动,可以在部分遣词造句上这样写:
