Acquainted with the Night
ROBERT FROST
I have been one acquainted with the night ———
I have walked out in rain — and back in rain ————
I have outwalked the furthest city light ————
I have looked down the saddest city lane ————
I have passed by the watchman on his beat ————
And dropped my eyes unwilling to explain ————
I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet ——
When far away an interrupted cry ————
Came over houses from another street ———
But not to call me back or say good-bye —
And further still at an unearthly height ————
One luminary clock against the sky ————
Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right —言说:时光本无是也无非
I have been one acquainted with the night ————
标题中acquainted with,一般的用法是be acquainted with sb./sth.对某物很熟悉很了解,我对黑夜足够了解,恰恰说明我经常黑夜独行;
第一句的中文“我独、我独”并非翻译错误,相传作者在朗诵该句时在I have been one处稍有停顿,翻译两次我独也更能体现出此时心境的忧郁;
walk out in rain and back in rain, outwalk the furthest city light。
